About Laura
I am a qualified counsellor with five years of professional experience. I have previously been employed as a counsellor at PARCS and with Portsmouth Hospital Trust, where I provided counselling to hospital staff.
I am passionate about how counselling, psychology, and psychotherapy practice can contribute to progressive social change. Counselling values — compassion, empathy, and acceptance — are powerfully aligned with a progressive valuing of others, and this belief sits at the heart of everything I do.
I began my career nearly 20 years ago as a Social Worker in Portsmouth. In those formative years I worked alongside gang members, perpetrators of crime, violent offenders, and those victimised by them, as well as people facing a wide range of other challenges. It was here that I first understood the profound power of empathy and unconditional positive regard in encouraging meaningful, lasting change.
My experience expanded further through roles with the Portsmouth Family Intervention Project, where I supported families with multiple and complex needs, and with Southern Domestic Abuse Service — work that deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, and the courage it takes to seek help.
I work with clients with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, pregnancy and birth trauma, relationships, and couples work.
